The Native Motifs exhibition held as part of the BRICS+ Fashion Summit was conceived and created amid the growing interest in traditional dress and the national identity of ethnic groups that populate the vast territory of Russia.
The influence of national and cultural codes on contemporary fashion and lifestyle began gaining momentum in the mid-2010s as a response to globalization. Today, this trend has firmly taken root worldwide. In Russia, the combination of extensive area and cultural diversity results in a highly vibrant manifestation of this tendency.

About the event
For the exhibition, we have brought together designers from all across Russia — from Arkhangelsk to Yakutia, and from Tuva to Kabardino-Balkaria — who draw inspiration from their national heritage.
Their mini-collections are displayed alongside authentic examples of folk costumes from private collections. In this way, we aim to clearly demonstrate both similarity to the original and dynamic evolution of forms and materials used to adapt traditional garments to modern life.
