Fashion as a City’s Symbolic Capital, New Production Technologies and Value-Based Marketing: BRICS+ Fashion Summit 2026 Opens in Moscow

The BRICS+ Fashion Summit has started in Moscow. Over three days, from September 28 to 30, fashion industry representatives from more than 60 countries, including China, India, Brazil, Turkey, Iran, Vietnam and other fast-growing economies, will discuss industry growth, new technologies, consumer behaviour, investment and the role of cultural heritage in contemporary fashion. The Summit is taking place at the Zaryadye Concert Hall.
28.09.2026
The first plenary session of the Summit will focus on “Fashion as a City’s Symbolic Capital.” Participants will discuss how local brands, industry events and the street style can shape metropolis's image, attract talent, tourists and investment, and strengthen its international profile.

Key speakers in the session will include Teimuraz Guguberidze, Managing Director of the GUM Department Store; Irena Soprano, founder and designer of SOLANGEL; Mahlet Teklemariam, Founder of Hub of Africa Addis Fashion Week (Ethiopia); and Khulood Khoory, Director of the Design Department at Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (UAE).

The Business Program on the Summit’s opening day will begin with the session “Artificial Intelligence in the Creative Process: Tool, or Co-Author?” Participants will explore the role of neural networks in fashion design, as well as related questions of authorship and ethical risks. Running alongside it will be “Investments in the Creative Industries. Can Fashion Compete with Startups?”, which examines what makes companies in the sector attractive to professional investors, and “High-Tech Materials. Can Pragmatism Be Emotionally Appealing?”, which explores the line between a material as an effective solution and as a vehicle for emotion.

The first day will also address the global transformation of the fashion industry. At “Facing the Future: Is the Fashion Industry Ready for Global Transformation?”, experts will discuss the impact of AI, platforms and marketplaces, hyper-personalisation, ultra-fast fashion and growing demand for conscious consumption. The same track will feature discussions on “Manufacturing Technologies. What Will Change in the Next 5 Years?” – covering 3D printing, automated cutting, robotic assembly, digital avatars and new materials – and “Smart Shopping. How Brands Can Navigate the Revolution in Consumer Behavior”, which will examine how AI, AR/VR, voice assistants, social media and e-commerce are reshaping the customer journey.

A separate section of the program on September 28 will explore the relationship between fashion and culture. At “Fashion as a Museum Artifact. What Do Leading Museums Select and Preserve?”, experts will discuss which garments, collections and materials become museum artefacts. Meanwhile, the discussion “In Search of Inspiration: Russia’s 19th and 20th Century Cultural Heritage” will consider whether Russian arts and crafts offer powerful sources of cultural identity beyond traditional handicrafts. Running alongside these sessions will be “Scouting Local Brands. Risks and Opportunities,” which will examine how the role of buyers is changing and how promising local labels can be identified.

The first day of the Summit will conclude with “Value-Based Marketing. What Does Your Customer Believe In?” The session will explore what lies at the heart of a fashion brand’s identity today.
On September 29 and 30, the business program will continue with discussions on local brands, traditional crafts, the economic impact of fashion weeks, certification, jewellery, fashion brands expanding into adjacent industries, cultural identity and the macroeconomics of the fashion business. Topics scheduled for the second and third days include “Supporting Local Brands. Building Infrastructure for Growth,” “The Role of Traditional Crafts in Modern Fashion,” “Fashion 0+: How to Preserve Space for Self-Expression,"Cultural Code. From Museum Archives to Global Markets” and “The Macroeconomics of Fashion. Which Megatrends Will Shape the Industry’s Future?”
In addition to the business program, an exhibition by the Khokhloma brand will be on display at the Zaryadye from September 28 to 30, demonstrating how traditional painting can become part of contemporary clothing, interiors, product design and jewellery.
